Just in case anyone is busily investigating this (unexpected), I've just
established that the last build that I certainly had this effect with
was canoo-webtest-1.7_R_763 ... I had a workaround in place with
subsequent builds. I'm presently setting up on that earlier build to
get a baseline.
Thanks

My current release appears to be canoo-webtest-1.7_R_1097
That was chosen only as a technology freeze point to enable unimpeded
progress on business logic, so I may upgrade it now that there's a
fair reason to.
Will let you know of any observed behavior change.
Thanks for the leads, also to others in other mails.

Hi Rob,
welcome to the list (no need for a welcome to WebTest as you seem to
be a
long time user ;-))
Could you test with the last build to see if you have the same memory
problems? It will surely not change the RAM used by your Tomcat
process but
should bring some improvements concerning ant.
Which build do you use? Besides my fix for WT-206, I've already had
memory
problems under Linux when default encoding was UTF-8 (WT-200). This
has been
fixed in build 1332.
Marc.
