- Ping a machine, and graph the ping time to see how if it's latency changes
- Check md5 on a web page to see nobody has hacked it.
- Download a file and check it's speed. Make a graph to see network congestion over time
- Check SNMP values like disk size and available space. Graph it over time to project when I will run out of space.\
It's pretty simple yet works very well. It works better than Big Brother in my opinion because it displays graphs over time not just a snapshot. In Big Brother you can get a chart of up/down over time, but you have to click on each machine to see it one by one. My script shows all my machines over the last day/week/month so I can see that they have been behaving well since I last looked at it. Also Big Brother tends to show things as just on or off. Like Pinging is working or not. But the graph of ping times is much more useful.

I'm wondering if anyone could recommend an application for monitoring a web application? Preferably fairly generic, as not all the applications are using Webware (i.e., not just Monitor.py). I guess Big Brother is a little like this, but I'm only really interested in web applications, so something specific to that might have a better set of features.
