If you'd like to lobby the WEDI Board to change them I'll consider joining you. But while the rules are set, I insist that we all play by them. I work with vendors everyday who would like to post a detailed message about their product and service comparing it to their competitor's, saying their competitors do not understand even the concept of the product or service and describing how they come up short. They might like to say that their competitors where attempting to steal their intellectual property and did not understand the business of the industry they are in. They would love to plug the name of their products and service 47 times into an email that they send to SNIP list serves! They know the rules of engagement though, so they do not. Again, it is not whether or not we have a discussion on the merits of certification (small c) but rather how that discussion takes place. I bet we can have a very interesting argument, debate and examination of certification without mentioning a single product, person or company. Want to try? I am beginning to be a bit concerned that good healthy debate on critical issues for HIPAA and the industy is being unnecessarily curtailed in the name of "too commercial." Thus, I disagree with your opinion that this discussion is inappropriate for this WEDi SNIP discussion list. Many vendors can make many valuable contributions to the discussion....after all, when all is said and done and the sun sets, it's the vendors that will ultimately provide the solutions to the industry to enable it to achieve the objectives of HIPAA. If they can't contribute openly as they see fit, then the industry loses. If the industry can't argue, debate and examine these critical issues in an open forum where all can participate, the industry suffers. I can think of no other forum which is more suitable for this kind of discourse. If the messages get too commercial, then participants on this list and other SNIP lists are sufficiently capable of policing themselves. There are lots of vendors who can teach us a lot through a very detailed explanation of their product or service. The issue is whether or not that is a permitted and appropriate use of this list and it is not. --- The WEDI SNIP listserv to which you are subscribed is not moderated.
