fyi...claims attachment are not mandated under HIPAA yet...NPRM is
expected first quarter 2003; however, covered entites could choose to
use the 275 attachment solution on a voluntary basis through trading
partner agreement. And to clarify, the 275 attachment can be used in
both a solictied or unsolited business scenario.

Require with the 837 - NO

The 275 is issued in response to a 277, which is issued in response to
the 837. The IGs make no mention of an unsolicited 275. You may get away
with delaying claim processing for each claim until you get the 275 or
paper response (don't forget that the 275 is not mandated yet), but it
would result in a VERY angry provider base.

The opinions expressed here are my own and not necessarily the opinion
of LCMH.

Dear Group Members,

We would like to know if we can require a 275 for every 837. This would
give us the ability to collect data such as DSMIV codes and and more
definitive ethnicity codes. Is there a reason why this cannot be done?

Thanks.
Suzanne
