If I
remember correctly, the payback period for this HIPAA admin simp of EDI
standards was projected to be 10 years. Now, if any manager in any business
today went to their decision makers and said let's spend thousand and millions
of dollars to put in this spiffy abstract 30-year old technology....and by the
way, the payback period is 10 years....they would be lucky to still be employed
by the end of the day. Businesses today demand and expect 6-18 MONTH payback
periods for IT investments. Why should healthcare expect any less....10
years!!!! It just boggles the mind that this seemed (seems) to be an acceptable
payback period.
