When testing the 837I, our compliance checker is complaining about DRG codes that are less than 3 digits (example: 98). The warning indicates that the code must be 3 digits. The provider is stating that DRG's that are less than 3 meaningful digits don't require a leading zero.
Can somebody shed some light on this? Should the provider be submitting 3 digits, or can the leading zero, or zeroes, be dropped?
