I previously ran a .deb install but changed to setup.py some time ago, I
find the convenience of having everything in the one place outweighs the
simplicity of an apt-get install. I run up a VM reasonably regularly when I
am working on something and have a couple of bash scripts to run to install
and configure a vanilla weeWX and its done quite quickly. All in one place
helps a lot when wanting to take a snapshot of work in progress.

Yep, I am about half hour north of Brisbane at Narangba. Re the cards, yes
Sandisk are good, I have never had an issue with one but I have always
moved everything except boot off to a USB HDD. Tom has been running a
longevity test, not sure if you have stumbled on this post

Yes, I remember doing similar on a very early PC to speed up dbase3 access,
don't bother with ramdisks now, USB HDD negates the need.

Yep, as the weeWX home page says 'A fun, supportive Users' Group
<http://groups.google.com/group/weewx-user>!'

One thing I forgot, your logger in your console has built-in memory so you
should be good for about 7 odd days if your system crashes. If you do
suffer a card failure just burn a new one, replace you db with your latest
backup and provided your backup data is no older than 7 odd days weeWX will
download all the stored/missed data from the logger on startup. WeeWX will
also publish your missing WU data. You do miss some of the highs and lows
that may have been picked up in the loop data but otherwise its an
effective strategy. The advantage of the all-in-one-file SQLite

That is the recomended approach with MySQL, get the plain vanilla weeWX up
and running and then worry about enhancements such as MySQL/Maria and then
one at a time.

Should be.
