I can report that the rumors are true - the GW1000 is dead simple! Nearly plug and play.
I followed the directions from here, <https://github.com/weewx/weewx/wiki/gw1000-recipe> and got my data displaying in weewx in less than a half hour. Now, finally, I can get to work customizing the thing!
