Travelling with an SO is HIGHLY overrated.
My last trip to the UK was completely ruined by my then-boyfriend. I
paid all the expenses while he spent all his money on booze and
antique books. Of course, he insisted that we had to stay in B&Bs.
The youth hostels or inexpensive hotels weren't good enough. You can
bet they would have been if we'd been travelling on his dime!
On top of that, he whined when I wanted to do things that he didn't
and even made me cut short one of the things I had most wanted to do
(a walking tour of Shrewsbury based on a series of mysteries that I
read voraciously) because he flat out refused to come with me and
whined that it was "boring" to sit in a pub all day without me. Of
course, we went to every freekin' ruin that HE wanted to see.
No, I'm not the least bit bitter about that trip...
