There's a saying in North Dakota (on tshirts and stickers, etc):

It was always really interesting to look at the crime statistics (on campus, at least) when winter set in. And even during winter, there was a statistical correlation between the rare "warm" winter days and crime reports. On campus, theft of items from vehicles was the big issue.
