in wiki it says upside down maps are:  Reversed maps are popular in 
Australia, New Zealand and other southern hemisphere countries. They 
are also used in other parts of the world as tools for teaching 
critical thinking.

also, it depends on where in space you are when you are looking at the 
map - the famous photo of the earth taken from apollo 17 originally 
had the south pole on top - i spose in space, north and south are 
quite arbitrary...
