If memory serves, yes, though it might be more like the company started after the intentional community failed. I only visited the Amana Colony wine shop with my girlfriend, her oenophile uncle, and his partner when they visited from San Francisco. They are gays of the John Waters stripe - or at least get a kick out of kitsch - so the thought of this dreadful plonk being sold with all seriousness was a hoot to them. There was a class offered at my college that studied the numerous intentional communities that sprung up and subsequently failed in the late 1800's, but I didn't take it. Had I known that, 11 or so years hence, I could answer this question in more detail I might have chosen my courses differently.
