Re: Dar Williams - Yes, she did, and it's perfect soundtrack music while driving through the Amana Colonies and a bleak wintry day. You ever have that moment where the right song hits the right spot at the right time? That was one.
And, John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants fame did a fun song about Iowa, how she was a beguiling little witch. Pretty fun stuff - if you track down his "State Songs" compilations, he does some fun things teasing various states. Re: Iowa - I grew up in Maryland, became a deejay after college, got a gig in Iowa City when I was 25, lasted a hot minute, moved to Des Moines, and stayed there for 2 1/2 years. I then went to Colorado for a little bit, California for a little bit, and then got a job back in Baltimore. I started working for a defense contractor in 2005, which is why I'm now in NoVA. But Iowa was seriously not. that. bad. Was it the perfect place for a Brit-pop lovin' 25 year old East Coast smart ass like me? Nope - which is EXACTLY why I needed it. The crime was low, the jobs were plentiful, I got to live in Fly-Over Country, I learned telecom engineering from the ground up, saw a big f*ckin' golden dome, ice- fished, learned how to really cook, and learned how to really live. I don't regret my time there at all. A lot of people make fun of Iowa, and much of it is rightly deserved. But it's a wonderful feeling to live in a world without sarcasm for a little bit. Relaxing, really. What I DO regret was leaving Colorado and L.A. I think I would like more time there. - Ray --- In [email protected], "Hannah Robinson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Dar Williams wrote an incredibly lovely song about Iowa.
