I would say Santana does count. Do you think if Eddie Van Halen put out a solo album he would call it "Eddie"? Winger and Nelson are great pulls, though are there any more examples of this? My point is I agree with you. Not only is it lame, it is at least pleasingly rare. Imagine if the Beatles had instead been called "Starr".

In the entire history of rock, only one band named simply using a band member's last name has ever been cool - Van Halen.* Daughtry is on par with Nelson and Winger. * Santana doesn't count because Carlos uses that name both for his old band and his own solo stuff. Blondie is a nickname. The Ramones are all psuedonyms. The use of articles like "The" or words like "band" or "group" don't count. --- In [email protected], "Maureen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > yeah - it's the american idol chris daughtry - he's in a band called > daughtry. yes, i became OBSESSED with him on idol... he's totally > hot hot hot and i think he's a great singer. he was in a band called > Absent Element before Idol - i really liked that music better than his > new solo stuff cuz it's harder - his album post idol (also called > Daughtry) is softer and more pop but i'm still obsessed with him. he > does all his own work - no covers... and he's playing on may 24th at > the 9:30... > --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell?
