Maroons are also escaped slaves although I would be surprised if this was their 
inspiration.

Not all universities have mascots, Stanford doesn't although they do have a 
color - cardinal.
Maybe it's the same deal with Chicago.

Also, expanding the envelope a bit, the light, and dark blues.
