I think i've got a revelation, how about following motto:
Openwengo - Freedom to Call, Freedom to Code
I like that one.
I think this is the only one that is even close to the original one in sexiness.
It is ok if the target audience are the free software people mainly
participating in the OpenWengo community, but not very good if the same slogan
is to be used towards users of the phone as well.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out, that we may be fixing the same problem twice
here. Originally RMS pointed out that the OpenWengo website did not correctly or
at all represent itself as a Free Software project and also not that it would
run on a GNU system. In this light the slogan was in fact a bit confusing (not
to me, but I see how it could potentially be), because it was not obvious that
the site had anything to do with Free Software, therefore the connection to
gratis was a possibility.
However, now Julien has replied that a new site will incorporate correct use of
both Free Software and GNU terminology. On such a site, I would not see "Free
Calls, Free Software" problematic at all. It should be clear to everyone then,
that it is the Free as in FSF we are talking about.
Does anyone agree?
I think this is an important point, because none of the alternatives so far,
except possibly the one quoted above, were any good. Therefore, it is not wise
to get rid of a good slogan because of a problem that is about to dissolve itself.
In fact, the "Free Calls" part is analogous to "Free Software" as well, because
it is not only about calling for no charge - there is a charge if calling PSTN -
but also the freedom to use any SIP provide. Unlike Skype, say. In that sense,
it is also wrong to argue that "Free Calls" leads to think of "Software for no
charge" although I do agree most people might interpret it like that.
