The straight ALSA back-end is still in development, and is still
incomplete. In the "official" linux builds, we use the PortAudio
back-end still. The ALSA back-end solves quite a few problems we've had
with PortAudio, so once it is complete it will be the default.

Current things missing in the ALSA back-end is support for severral
sound cards. There's probably more, but that one covers your situation.

The best advice would be to get the .tar.bz2 from openwengo.org or
rebuild the software using PortAudio rather than the non-PortAudio ALSA
back-end. If you could forward this information on to the packagers for
your distro (and put them in contact wiith me, if you'd like) I'd
appreciate it.

Cheers,
Dave.
