I don't really understand this, and probably am not talking about this. (But
it doesn't matter. :-)

True. (Emphasis added.) Someone might say that what you write above (not
showing the right status information if your mouse is elsewhere) is actually
a bug.

I think this could possibly be a clearer way, yes.

movement hint on the map, or near the terrain def/move of the top panel"
Both of these options could work nicely (UI-wise), indeed if that's really
needed / wanted. Not absolutely necessary, in my opinion, but maybe these
subtle clues for the user are good to have, when they give the right idea.
