Follow-up Comment #2, patch #751 (project wesnoth):
I just discovered this playing through Descent Into Darkness:
Darken Volk's type is a specialized copy of the Dark Sorcerer (specifically,
it can't advance to a Lich). However, he advances to the core version of
Necromancer.
As a result, Necromancer has "Advances From" links to both versions of Dark
Sorcerer. I can think of a number of fairly obvious ways to get around that,
but I'm not sure what would be considered best.
