Follow-up Comment #2, bug #9677 (project wesnoth):
I see your point (or only half a point, perhaps :-), but IMO it would really
be more polite towards the other players to notify them that they're playing
against AI. Seriously, few people wish to play the AI, unaware of it at
start, when they've started against humans, as they can choose to play the AI
whenever they like.
Also, in a normal game (without a time limit, or a team game even with a time
limit) simply asking the others to wait a couple minutes (or in a team game
with a time limit lending your controls to your ally) while you grab your
drink is a working solution. At least I tend to play with people who are
willing to wait a while, if I politely ask them to.

As a separate issue, there's still the question of visual feedback for the
player who triggered the :droid command. This feedback isn't _absolutely_
necessary (especially if you have explicit :droiding and :undroiding commands
instead of a toggle), but it would good UI design, IMO.
