Follow-up Comment #1, bug #11280 (project wesnoth):

weapon selection algorith doesn't always work well, either (as it  seems it
doesn't take into account the effect of using a weapon with mods like 'slow'
etc., and seldom really weighs the importance of unit defense value); i've
seen AI doing some kamikaze attacks lately (using skeleton archers in open
field to attack mages of light in a village is an obvious example imo) -
maybe it's high time to write the weapon selection routine again from scratch
and allow the AI to defend (of simply not attack) when none of its weapons is
effective?
