Follow-up Comment #5, bug #11156 (project wesnoth):
Another vote for getting this issue resolved. Being somewhat paranoid I
loathe running anything with administrator rights.
I first made a post regarding this issue during 1.3.x development and was
told it was too late in the cycle, but that it might be fixed in the 1.5.x
development stream.
In my case (Win XP x64), it won't run at all, the game simply freezes if you
don't have admin rights, something a game really should not require.
