Please bring back the .app download and do away with this installer.
Installers on OS X are old-style and annoying.
I understand the "small advantage of saving space if you make copies of the
game app to different folders." Normal users do not make copies of the game
in different folders. They download the game and want to play it.
Let's list the advantages and disadvantages:
advantages:
*maybe* save a little disk space
disadvantages:
takes more user interaction and time to install (many clicks vs one drag or
even running it from the dmg)
frameworks from newer versions overwrite old frameworks, potentially
causing older versions to stop working - can I confidently test development
versions not knowing if my stable version will continue to work?
os x installers have the glaring oversight of no uninstallation mechanism.
Before, I could just delete the .app if I wanted to uninstall. Now I would
have to be privy to the contents and manually deinstall pieces from the
system.

Some people may have the desire to share the frameworks, this is not hard to
do when you build it yourself, and these people are likely to be building it
already. An alternative download could work too.
