Follow-up Comment #11, bug #14487 (project wesnoth):

Vaxquis, your bug is not related to the original one. The original one is
caused by SDL_ttf not handling multi-character glyphs. Yet you are
experiencing the issue with the campaign dialog in 1.8 version, which is not
using SDL_ttf but Pango. Please open a new bug report.

In the meantime, it seems your issue is caused by DejaVuSans.ttf not being
understood. So you may try installing some new fonts and playing with the
family_order attribute in the data/hardwired/fonts.cfg.
