Follow-up Comment #4:
In fact, it is not a distribution problem. It's up to Boost users (that is,
Wesnoth developers) to explicitly disable the dependency. (See Boost
documentation.) For a time, we were doing things properly, but apparently it
caused some compilation trouble for some people, so the fix was reverted.
In other words, since we aren't disabling it, Boost.Serialization becomes a
dependency of Wesnoth (even if we don't use it) and the build systems should
therefore test for it. (Or we should find why disabling the dependency caused
Wesnoth to no longer compile for some people.)
