Follow-up Comment #4, bug #17573 (project wesnoth):
While this is an upstream problem, the reason to include the patch in
wesnoth, at least temporarily, is that the game is unplayable without the
patch if your distro doesn't yet include the patched SDL library.
Perhaps detect the sdl version and use the dummy surface when appropriate.
