Follow-up Comment #7, bug #17573 (project wesnoth):
yeouch... all sort of problem with that approch...
since it uses asm() it's intel only, so not portable to other architectures
since it's a wrapper it means the work has to be done mainly by packagers,
moreover it's pretty complicated to put in place (modifying build systems and
everything...)
if you provide a patch I might reconsider, but at that point I'm quite
convinced it's either wait for SDL to trickle down or detect version number
ourselves...
