Follow-up Comment #2:
Changing the version of SDL back to 1.2.13 makes the method by which I
duplicated it no longer cause the error.
I am thus marking it as a problem with SDL. Note that reverting to 1.2.13 in
general is not an option as that version crashes in full screen in Lion.
