Follow-up Comment #2, bug #20394 (project wesnoth):
It sounds like a player left and the host started the game at roughly the same
time. If the two messages crossed each other in transit, then another player
might see the first player leave before the game starts (while the host does
not). (End of speculation done without carefully understanding the protocol.)
It's impossible to prevent another player from leaving since they can always
quit the game even if the leave option is disabled, even during loading. This
may make more sense as a feature request for a more complicated start protocol
to reduce the occurrences of players leaving after the host choose to start
the game but before the game is loaded.
