Follow-up Comment #11, bug #23488 (project wesnoth):

It seems the problem is purely about malloc. The game doesn't crash in
valgrind whereas setting the MALLOC_CHECK variable allowed to catch the crash
a little earlier (see attachment).
So it's either that glibc is too sensitive about "double free" or the issue is
actually real. (gcc's fault?)
