Yes, that's the sdl2 branch. Aginor is the primary contact for that work, I've
only been assisting in a minor capacity. If you have any input to share on
that, you'd be welcome on the IRC dev channel, I'm sure.
As for general GUI handling in Wesnoth, I don't know all the technical details
but my understanding is that it does have a lot of deficiencies, including the
strange way events are handled (leading to the difficulties we've had in
migrating to SDL2). I believe the current direction for now is to do what we
can to get to a working state with SDL2 - improving event handling and such,
perhaps adding proper hardware acceleration and other display improvements, is
to come later.
I may not be fully accurate with that statement, though, so probably best to
check with Aginor if you're curious about this sort of information.
