Follow-up Comment #3, bug #23560 (project wesnoth):

Here's a good screenshot showing the differences in font rendering:

I swapped the font out to make it visibly clear what is rendered correctly and
what is not, by replacing DejaVuSans.ttf with DejaVuSerif.ttf (and then just
renamed the file back to DejaVuSans.ttf).

After taking a screenshot, I highlighted the sections that are good and bad.
Sections in green are correct; sections in red are not.
