I agree. Whereas an ally would help the backstabber, an enemy of the defender who is also an enemy of the backstabber probably would not, and an ally of the defender absolutely wouldn't.



My feeling is that the backstabber doesn't need explicit cooperation from
the unit on the other side. If it is threatening the defending unit, that
should be enough to aid the backstabbing unit.

I don't know that either position is strong enough to override what would be better for the game though. I think having more interaction between players would make the game more interesting and hence expanding this to the enemy of my enemy is my friend (at least while his back isn't turned) will make the game more fun in the few cases where it will matter. Other people may have
different opinions of this.

I agree with both Jon Daniel and John McNabb.
IMHO, friendly or allied unit can't be distraction for defender, especialy if they both cover their backs.

Your idea, would make backstabbing units quite more powerful. They would get possibility, of inflicting great amount of damage to any defencive line, where units satands next to each other. Also healing/curing units supporting defence would cause more troubles than help then - same with leadership and illumination.

Onlu thing that I would change, would be making current backstab work with not only friendly, but also with allied units. This for sure wouldn't brake anything, but would also add some more strategy to MP games.

Seems I tottaly missread point here.. (I shouldn't read things too fast when I'm tired.. :-( ). Sorry if I confused you a little :-) (I even confused myself...)

So yes, like I wrote before:
