I've started working a bit on the Wesnoth 1.0 announcement, and I've uploaded my first draft to http://www.wesnoth.org/announce10.html .
It needs lots of work, and I expect to get your help to improve it, both the text and the graphic style (already asked ettin about the latter). According to ott, it would be nice to include some sentences about why we think Wesnoth is so cooool. Please, feel free to reply with any suggestions.
