Ahhh, several problems with this:
1) Starting with 1.6.x fribidi is basically deprecated and only used in the
"old" gui elements. No idea if the change is still relevant. Mordante knows more
 about this.
2) We got more build systems than only autotools. Please also fix cmake and
scons or at least state what exactly has to be changed there.
3) Don't forget to bump the version requirement for fribidi in INSTALL as well
as on the compile page in the wiki.
4) Before backporting this stuff to 1.4 please do not forget that I won't
release a new 1.4.x version. So it will have to be applied as patch by the
packagers anyway.
