Hi everybody!
Those hanging around in IRC and reading the backlog might have seen me asking
what you think of starting the feature freeze soon. The next time I can create
a release is the first (complete) November weekend. I'd propose to start a
string and feature freeze at that time so that we can finally prepare for the
1.10 stable series. As you might remember the original plans once were to
start the feature freeze shortly after GSoC which is over now for a while
already.

So, what would this mean:
* At the start of November the feature and string freeze would start. This
means only bug fixes from then on.
* I'd try to release a new "beta" release every ~2 weeks. Beta because it
should basically be feature complete, just a little more buggy than a final
version and translations ain't as complete as they will be in the final.
* I imagine that we will be at least 6 weeks, more likely a little longer, in
beta time. Once things have stabilized enough we call it "final" and branch
trunk off into branches/1.10 which opens trunk again for new features and
string changes.
* In parallel we work on the 1.10 announcement text and make sure that
translators can also work on that one.
* In case we manage to get things reasonable stable I'd hope for 1.10 around
Christmas / new years eve.

If you have blockers for this plan, meaning that you still want to implement a
feature or some larger change, please reply to this mail stating what it is
and how long you expect the work to take.

It would be really great if you could have a look through the bug tracker for
a) bugs that are in your area that you plan to work on (assign them to
yourself!) and
b) for the severities of bugs/features in your working area making sure that
"blockers" and "important" really only cover stuff that musn't exist anymore
before releasing 1.10.

Cheers,
Nils Kneuper aka Ivanovic
