sourceforge.net is fine with extremely huge bandwidth usage. But only as long as their "file release system" (FRS) is used which means that you place links to their download distributor which does then show some ads and you download. So to be able to do stuff using sf.net there should probably be some "you have to download this package manually and 'install' it correctly". We don't have enough bandwidth available at wesnoth.org to really host *many* > 300MB downloads, so this is a severe problem that should be tackled/solved before using wesnoth.org as backend.
