Hi Jennifer,

I am happy that you have joined us on this forum. I want to allude to
Christine's statement that there are few sisters on this forum - your joining
us
is a prayer being answered.

There are many questions asked by members about the issues and how the MPs
to-be, will articulate the implementation of their Manifestos, seem to give us
grief. For instance:

1) Partnership vs Fighting for:
Eng.Dr Ajedra's explanation of these two words might mean one is good and one
is
bad. In my opinion both work side by side. In that, while you follow the
government manifesto (partnering), you also "fight for" projects that need
government funding. In the "fight", what you are asking from the government is
plan of action, that will state a time frame in which implementation will take
place (while partnering).
Thinking about it, "fighting for" could also apply to the fact that our people
have waited indefinitely for these services, and are demanding action and
results (citizen rights).

2) Civic Education:
This could not be emphasized enough. Lack of knowledge or information to the
voters results in the voters being misled or confused about what and whom they
are voting for. The idea of setting up Computer cafes is really good. It would
be good if someone on ground could research the acquisition of the computers,
identify centers and how the centers will be managed. Along with that, we still
need the physical presence of non-partisan civic educators to reach those who
can not read and write.

3) Energy:
The technical explanation given by Mr. Afi has helped me to understand a bit
about the cost of connection. He also mentioned about Pakwach - is this
something that was tried already or you are saying it should be tried? Whatever
the options are, the question remains - what are the MPs to-be going to do
and
how/when ? As I mentioned before on this forum, with electricity, almost every
project/sector will fall in line with ease.

4) Change of Image:
More often a politician is viewed as a "gamer", and over the years, the
politicians themselves have not helped the portrayal. A politician in my view,
is a person knowledgeable of civic matters, who is "partnering" with the
government to bring (fight for) development in his/her constituency. So, the
questions raised to the politicians (MPs and MPs to-be) and discussions on this
forum is ONE of the means for them to change the mindset of the people about
them (politicians). That is, do not be defensive when a question puts you on
spot, misleading or deceitful.

It all nothing but my view.

Thank you

Lina
