Elly,

Many of us, me inclusive have always argued that for West Nile to see what
other regions have seen requires a regime change. This government under
Museveni will not do us anything even if all of us bow down to lick his shoes.
Yesterday, I was talking to a friend on phone who is actually sick in bed. In
our talk, we predicted that the International Womens' Day national celebrations
in Nebbi will offer the president and his  ministers another platform to lie to
the people of West Nile. This is what I read in you piece below.

The Anites, Aridrus, Dujangas don't know the man they are dealing with. They
will be used to say all the lie they can say until they lose face in front of
their electorates. Maybe that is when they will realize that  they should have
done otherwise. Was it not Aridru (whom people thought came as
a savior) recently on radio talk show together with Mike Mukula from Soroti,
who said after one month (meaning in March), Nyagak will be switched on. By the
way, Mukula was sarcastic enough to say the past governments, including the one
of Iddi Amin failed to solve the power problem in West Nile and the NRM
government is trying to fix it, so people should be patient. Was it not
Museveni who was reported to have said that the people of West Nile are asking
for power and yet he sees grass thatched houses everywhere?

Where I am now is as rural as our sub counties of beleafe, Romogi, keyi etc. Do
you know what is happening here? They are being connected to the national grid.
Power lines have run all over. Have anyone of you been to this place called
Lamwo? That is where Onek Hillary comes from, bordering south Sudan. If the
rural sub counties here can assess the national grid, without any viable
economic potential, why can't Arua?  Who does not see the economic viability of
Arua and West Nile in general?

I hope the district councils will pick on the advise to institute a special
memorandum they can present to government. If they are wise, they should
constitute public hearings about power in the West Nile region to build the
memorandum.

Subject: [WestNileNet] WEST NILE POWER LOST AGAIN

West Nilers,
We have again lost a serious opportunity to have us on the national power grid.
The President while addressing the nation on the International Women's day
anniversary at Nebbi Secondary school today, said for us to have the national
grid we need power demand of 7.5mw. I couldn't come to terms with the
President's stand that West Nile power demand is 2.5 mega watts thus the 3.5 mw
from Nyagak will suffice for our need.

I hold Hon Dujanga squarely responsible for this under estimation of west nile
power demand. The current demand in Arua alone is more than 2mw leave alone
industrial need. Can some body technical enough serve us with the actual power
demand not supply for west nile.

I pray all the District Local Councils of Nebbi, Zombo, Arua, Maracha, Koboko
and Yumbe institute a special council report to President's office on
 this issue.

Hon Dujanga once again promised that Nyagak will be switched on in two months
time i.e May yet during Hon Anite's wedding he promised march. Why speak
untruth in the presence of the President?

We need power this year, Period. Or else;;;;;;;;;;;;;
MPs have not lived to their commitment on this issue of power.
The test of a man is not in falling but standing up upon falling. Keep the
struggle folks.
Elly
