Ejiku, Christine, Patrick,
Thanks for your thoughts. Indeed time itself will tell. The thing which
is annoying is looking at people as if they are fools and cannot see what is
happening around and more so by our so called politicians. I was reading
Jackson's post on tobacco growing in Uganda and how much of that is coming from
West Nile. In terms of taxes to government, that is billions of shillings. If
taxes should give us services, even God knows that we as a people deserve
better than what we are getting. I guess this is where Moses story comes handy.
Recently, Nandala Mafabi urged that, when cows were dying in Western Uganda due
to prolonged drought, the then parliament he was in convened and passed a
supplementary budget to serve the cows. Now that children are dying of nodding
disease in norther Uganda, no one in government is bringing a request for a
supplementary budget in parliament. He wonders whether the government of the
day considers cows in the west more important than people in northern Uganda.
Ejiku, true, the cows require water that must be pumped from the streams using
electricity, hence there is demand in Kiruhura worth the six billion
investment, no demand in West Nile.
John Agami, in his writings in pursuit of the Independence of the Lado
people argues that one strategy the British used to fight the realization of
the Lado state was to recruit sons and daughters of Lado area into its ranks
who would argue against the independence of the Lado people or keep quiet when
the question of the Lado independence comes up in fora that take decisions.
Agami in one of his papers cited names as Joseph Lagu (in south sudan), Iddi
Amin and others. Today, we can substitute the quest of the independence of the
Lado people with the development needs, including power needs of West Nile and
the Lagus, Iddi Amins with names we know very well.
Christine, we had better begin expecting less and less and finally nothing from
our politicians, especially the MPs. As Ejiku pointed out, with a cabinet
reshuffle at the corners, the MPs of the bus are positioning themselves as the
good ones. No one wants to be caught at the wrong side, no one wants to bad
mouth the appointing authority. If a motion to sell off part of west nile to
either Congo or south Sudan came on the flow of parliament today, these MPs
would say 'aye' to the contrary 'nay' to get a cabinet appointment.
Ismail

Dear all,
Very interesting arguments I must say. I think the real thing should be where
is Nyagak and not whether we should be connected to the nat. grid or
not?!!!!!!! What our demand is and whether it is enough to get us on the nat
grid!!!!!????
I know Kiruhura has just got a project of over 6billion to connect villages in
Kazo to the National grid which our good Dujanga commissioned recently. I can
bet the villages of Kiruhura do not have even the demand of 1MW. Anyway cows
require water to be pumped from the streams!!!
If the President could only concentrate on when the 3.5MW will be on, he would
have sounded smarter. Now he is "all hats and no cows" just like the Texans
say.
Good deliberations folks but ofcourse most politicians from West Nile will
never discuss this seriously because a cabinet reshuffle is largely expected
soon and like Christine puts it, there is still time. God will one time smile
at us. This is a test that Moses and his sheep faced in the desert. We are
being tested and we should remain strong in the face of this massive neglect.
Time itself will tell.

How does a president stand there each time to say the same thing without nobody
opposing him and people just clap and nod their heads in happiness?
