Sorry learn of the lost of a very homorous and wise-person. Current generation
do not know much about his great qualities.We are now challenged to make
wise-counsel from elders - they are a source of wisdom...through invitations
to; public debates, key note addresses etc...but one has to tell us where they
are...

It is indeed sad to receive this news of the passing on of Hon. Alex Lobidra.
In addition to the eulogies you have posted, as the late relocated to Koboko,
he did so carrying his passion for farming to his village in Leiko. In his
style of ambition he even established a water supply system on his farm to
challenge the dependence on rain-fed agriculture. I personally did work for him
on the water project, providing nearly 1.5km water distribution line on his
farm.
As confirmed by Ambassador (Rtd) Harold, Hon Alex Lobidra was a Teacher in the
famous Arua J.S.S . In his witty and jovial personality as mentioned by Caleb,
I was to take him on regarding a rumour I had ever heard about him while he
taught in Arua J.S.S. Hon. Alex made a long drauly laughter after I asked him
about his role in setting the houses on fire as I had heard.
He revealed an interesting thing to me as we kept on chatting at his farm in
Koboko. His openness striked me greatly and he didn't hide anything about the
story, neither did he have any regrets, as he believed that was his selfless
contribution to the development of Arua J.S.S.
He had gotten tired of parents and students always labouring to repair the
grass-thatched roofs of the school under the administration of the missionaries
as such he used a magnifying glass to torch the roofs of the buildings
one-by-one under the then believed misterious fires while communities tried to
battle putting of the fires. He had known that the missionaries had the
financial resources to put up permanent roofs (structures). Later in a staff
meeting to discuss renovation of the buildings, when the missionaries were
again floating the idea of using grass he was quick to tell them, why use grass
again to thatch the roofs when it was clearly demonstrated that the buildings
were more prone to fires. Not negative though, this was his confession.
Indeed Hon. Alex Lobidra was full of life, humour and reasoning as seen in the
way he kept access to his homes and farms, always full of thorny bushes around
and caging the accesses with the same. I did ask him about the thorny caged
access. His answer was simple. Hon. Lobidra said, "to access me, my home and
farm one had to struggle and to struggle to access me, my home and farm meant
one had a valid reason...either to harm him, steal or engage in productive
discussions ans issues with him".
I could go on and on over the numerous humerous chats with the man I hitherto
believed was "difficult" as people said. To sum it up, I think he had his own
principles, which many people for their own unfounded fears, didn't get closer
enough to him to understand him better.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
