Colleagues,
Until such time when our leaders and we as Westnilers are able to put aside our
political shades and personal differences for the sake of common good, a lot
will remain elusive for us. Meningitis is now ravaging West Nile, coming hot on
the heels of Hepatitis B whose efforts are still unaccomplished. Shouldn't
Abiriga, Wadri, Onzima, Dibele et al sit on the same table for such a cause???
Back to the Dibele appointment, I think the issue has been taken overboard. One
of the key tenets of the establishment of this forum was to act as a "notice
Board" of sorts on one hand while enabling us to engage in constructive
discourse which would otherwise be difficult given the geographic dynamics. No
one is coerced to accept any or all of the invitations to treat posted herein.
Voluntarism has been the key. As such, if anyone has reservations about any
issue posted on this net, it is their right to steer clear from it. NO ONE IS
FORCED TO DO ANYTHING!!
It is purely based on one's conviction of the issue at hand and the willingness
to voluntarily participate. In stating one's disapproval/disagreement with any
issue, the least expected is that such a position is communicated with a degree
of maturity as opposed to negativity and sometimes outright personalization of
issues! We have read more trivial matters on this forum but tolerated them
until they fade away!! So far, it is impossible to filter what comes through on
this forum given the unregulated access. As noted severally, the most effective
commentators on this forum are the ones who are a no show when it comes to
moving from verbose to action!!! How many calls and appeals were made by
Christine Munduru and team on the Hepatitis project? How many heeded tangibly?
Didn't it boil down to largely the usual selfless individuals when it came to
action? And yet this effort was in the public domain in this forum and beyond.
A forum that brings Abiriga and Dibele on the same table may become a turning
point and an opportunity for them to bury whatever hatchet (if any). We cannot
afford to have leaders who spend a load of their time bickering over sometimes
small matters rather than focusing on service delivery. This could be an
opportunity for them to listen to our concerns, as key stakeholders, first
hand. They could together take up and address issues like Hepatitis B and
Meningitis in Arua and Yumbe respectively and West Nile in general. They could
use their networks to jostle government to wake up to the realities in West
Nile. The shrewd RDCs have managed to steer development efforts to their areas
of operation purely on the basis of political manoeuvring and networking.
Personally, I don't see a problem with government and opposition sitting one a
round table to address a common problem, as long as it benefits the people.
I think the proposal by Lino was in good faith and targeted at those who see
sense out of it. Those on the contrary have a right to stay away or at the very
least express their views in an appropriate manner, with due regard to the
diverse nature of the members in this forum! Whoever accepts to be part of the
www should be prepared for what comes with it.
