Michael,

We played with the polling frequency because we thought that if there will
be less network traffic generated from the WUG the network would be less
congested and that would lead to less false alarms.
On second thought, it is logical that only the default timeout will control
false alarms rate.

Cu,

Yaniv

Hi Yaniv and Jennifer,

I can understand changing the default timeout which I have now increased to
8000 ms. Wouldn't changing the polling frequency only skip polls resulting
in longer down times and exaggerated up times?

Thanks for the tips everyone.

Hi Michael,

We had the same problem with http ftp and smtp services that often WUG said
they are down when they were actually working fine. We played with the
polling frequency and also the default timeout, and the problem was solved.

Hello Forum,

One of my friends emailed me the following question:

...there are times when whatsup reports services and/or devices down when
they are actually not...i've talked to ipswitch
support and they give me the same answer...either i'm polling too many
things at one time or they tell me to change the polling
frequency....neither has eliminated the problem...

I don't have the problem reported above. Anyone have any comments or
suggestions?

Thanks,

Michael Patterson
