If you are checking for tcp services WhatsUp Gold will check the port for a
response. It will wait only a specified amount of time and then it will
report as down (this could mean that it is hung since it did not respond in
the specified amount of time.)
If you are checking for nt/2000 services the OS reports the service as up,
therefore you would not know that the service is hung. If you are looking
to know if it is hung... check the port using a tcp/ip custom service.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Monitoring services
Can I use WUG to monitor a "hung" service? I have a web application box
that has a service that sometimes hangs. The service doesn't die, It just
stops responding. Can I monitor that?
TIA,
Eric Dami
