The idea behind Interface is exactly what Scott mentions---so you can directly monitor multiple connections on a system without having to create multiple icons for it on a map. The new ability to have lines be drawn red or green lets you represent these directly on the map so you can see in a mnemonic way which interface is down. And yes sometimes you get false negatives off of it. There is a way to work around this by slightly tweaking the definition of the "Interface" service, which is explained here: WhatsUp Gold - Spurious down reports from SNMP services such as Interface http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/WG-20011221-DM01.htm Scroll down to the last 3 paragraphs, thats where the instructions are.
