Several ways. You can graph it using the SNMP graphing tools, and create a
custom SNMP service with a threshold of (say) 80% bandwidth which will alert
you when it exceeds it or drops below.

Alternatively, get a product like Denika or WebNM (WWW.SOMIX.COM) or MRTG
(WWW.MRTG.ORG) that does all the hard work for you, produces performance
graphs, and triggers alerts on thresholds you set.

Hope this helps

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] basic bandwidth utilization

Hello,

How do I monitor the inbound and outbound utilization of a T-1 Internet
connection and be alerted when it exceeds a certain percent?

Yes, it seemed like a simple goal at first, but despite the manual,
archives, and much trial/error; I've not found a clear solution. I'm using
WUG 7 on Win2K Pro. Routers being monitored are Cisco 2500 series (2501 I
think).

In anticipation of your answers, please consider:

I've been working with ifInNUcastPkts, ifInOctets, ifInUcastPkts, etc. Which
of those OID's are meaningful? Is there an OID for percent utilization of a
link?

I've seen mention of MRTG, but I'd like to stick with one tool (WUG) if
possible. If MRTG is my best option, how can it be integrated with WUG 7? I
don't mind setting up MRTG to supply info to WUG for WUG to act on, but I
don't want to toggle between multiple tools (or worse, manage multiple
paging/notification features of separate programs!)

It seems this should be easy to accomplish with WUG. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
