Dang - looks like Tim beat me... anywho since I've typed this already...

Hi Gary,

Yes and no.  Yes, the %v variable will give you the names of the down services.
However this variable is not available in a recurring notification report at this time.
(Recurring reports are fairly simplistic reports).  I will register a feature request
to add "include down service names" to the reports.

Currently the recurring reports are summary reports and just report map
level statistics summary.

%v, the enumeration of down services is available as a device level statistic
and is available in regular notifications triggered off of specific devices.

I suggest you create an email notification which includes %v and
assign it to one of your suspected devices, once the service goes
down you will see the notification come through and it will name the
down service.

hope this helps,
Adrian

Is there any way that you can add the name of a monitored custom NT service to a notification email.  I currenty receive a WUG notification each morning advising me the number and names of down devices.  I am being told that 30 + services are down, but the down services are not actually named.  When I investigate the device reportedly having a down service - there is no down service at all.

Appreciate the advice.  By the way am running WUG 7.02

Hey Laurent,

If you are using v7.01 or 7.02, you can do the following:

- First backup your map (copy your wup file to a backup location) - omit this
step at your own peril.
- Add your 2 custom services to *one* of the devices.
- Do a File | Export | INI | MyMap.ini
- Use your favorite ASCII editor to open MyMap.ini
Search for the custom service you have added to that one device - in order
to understand and get an example of the necessary syntax.
- Add these two service definition lines to the end of all the other devices in the file (you can do this
by hand, or craft a macro, batch file, awk script, fancy search and replace, etc, etc,
whatever suits you and your tools).  Save your updated ini file.
- Return to WhatsUp Gold, and with the original map loaded do
a File | Import | INI | MyMap.ini on it.
- Pick any random device and look at the services.

To include your custom service in the list of services you can discover
in the new map wizard (which includes host file import) edit your
services.ini file and add the line
UseInDiscovery=true
to the definition of your custom service.  The next time you do a
discovery you will see your custom service with the other services
that can be used in the discovery wizard.
It may be easier to do this and rediscover your devices/services than
a mass search and replace over an exported ini file.

hope this helps
Adrian.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Add 2 Custom Services to 150+ hosts.

Hi all,
I have a map with 150+ stations to which I need to add 2 custom services (LSF).
Is there a way to do that without entering each host individually ?
Incidentally, when discovering a map from a hosts file, the discovery of custom services is not
an option. Or am I missing something ?

Thanks for your help,
Laurent.
