I have logged a feature request for more device types to be made available.

If you do not like the EMF files produced by Visio then WhatsUp Gold's VDevice tool is
able to create your EMF icons from scratch. I attach a laptop DSE and EMF created by
a colleague when he was fiddling about.

It's the device type definition in hosttype.ini that lets things get interesting.
This definition references the EMF file but also specifies what services are
associated with the type, etc.

One way to visually differentiate different device types is not to create a unique EMF
for each and every one - it's to use Overlay Text (Configure -> Device Types -> Edit
-> Overlay Text). Not only is this quick and easy to do... it saves on memory because
only one EMF has to be loaded.

Sorry, the last sentence should say:
I just don't understand why Ipswitch haven't made MORE device types a long
time ago

There are no good device types in Visio either, besides, they don't look
good when converted. I just don't understand why Ipswitch haven't made
device types a long time ago

ystein,
You can create custom device types by using EMF files. Theses are
easily saved from Visio documents. You can also specify details for this in
your ini file.

Are there any plans to make more device types in future versions of whatsup
gold, like more specific ones for 3com, cisco, or just device types for
switches and wireless radios would have helped a lot.

Thanks
