There is a way to configure the Exchange MTA to write messages into the NT
Event Log when the queue grows to a certain size. The procedure to
configure these messages is documented by Microsoft here:

XCON: MTA Logs Warning Events When Queues Reach Specified Sizes
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q163085

A closely related set of messages are also documented here:
XFOR: How the Internet Mail Service Handles Low Disk Space
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q189587

You can then use EVNTWIN.EXE (available on Windows 2000 or later) to convert
this log message into an SNMP trap, which WhatsUp Gold can listen for. If
you go that route, you might want to check out this IPSWITCH KB article on
hand-editing your traps.txt to make the resulting traps look nicer:

WhatsUp Gold - Hand-editing of MIB.TXT and TRAPS.TXT
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/WG-20020305-DM01.htm

Hope that helps!
