        Dear Mr. Valuikas,

Thank you for visiting our website and allowing us to assist you with
        your Cingular Wireless account.

The TAP service as provided by Cingular Wireless is an input
process/connection used to enter text messages into the Cingular
Wireless Short Message Service Center (SMSC) for delivery to a digital
        mobile phone.

Do to the wide variety of software and hardware available, Cingular can
not guaranty that any software or hardware available will work with its
        service.
We do not provide the software or computer hardware to any customer for
        this service.
It is up to the customer to acquire the necessary software/hardware and
configure it for use with service.
The following is provided as a means to assist in the customer in
setting up his computer and software.
Verify the following with the customer:
Modem BAUD rate is set to 1200, 2400 or 9600 baud. No other will work.
        Data bits set to 7.
        Stop bits set to 1.
        Parity set to Even (E).
Set Max characters per message to: 140
Data compression, if available, is set to OFF.
If available, set Service type to: Alphnumeric.
If on PBX system, add the outside access number, usually 9, at the
beginning of the number dialed. (Example: 9,817-355-3052).
When dialing Long Distance, be sure to add a "1" to the beginning of the
number dialed. Entered after outside access number and before number
        dialed. (Example: 9,1-800-496-5351)
Have the customer send a TAP test message to himself, note number.
Check SMSC - TPSMT, Message View to see if message was received by
        SMSC.

I contacted Cingular to get information. Their tech support did not
have answers concerning the TAP protocol. Level 1 tech support did not know, but
called level 2 tech support. I do not know how many levels there are, but at level
two they told me they could not help me either and could not direct me any where
else.. If we could get a thread of all the people that would like to use this
service, maybe they would try a little harder to direct us in the right direction.

Or, if several people around the country calls about the same thing,
maybe the answer will be found. I believe tech support may be available by region.
Therefore, tech support in different parts of the country may have the answer. I am
in the southeast portion of the US.

I am continuing to comb the web.

                        Anthony,

When you get that working (if you are talking dialup) can you
give me the setup? Here also is some more info on Cingular numbers for Tim unless you
have different info, if so I would like that.

Which version of What's Up Gold are you using?

If you are using an older version, use install a SMTP
server (builtin to 2000) and setup to send messages to cingular. In my area it is:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or .net.

Or, you can use an external mail server.

If you need any assistance with that part, I will send
screen shots of my setup to the list.

If you are using version 8.0 you can use the SMS
feature. I am about to set this up in the next few days. I think the bellsouth
profile should work for Cingular, but I am not sure.
